Lunch with the billionaire and well-known philanthropist Warren Buffett has attracted a record auction bid of $2.63 million at the 11th annual charity fundraiser.

The winning bidder, who wished to remain anonymous, will have a chance to dine with Buffett at New York’s prestigious Smith and Wollensky steakhouse.

Buffett earned his title of “legendary investor Warren Buffett” after turning the textile manufacturer Berkshire Hathaway into a billion-dollar enterprise.

Warren Buffett is getting a lot of negative reviews for his appearance under subpoena yesterday (Wednesday) before the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission.

In response to respectful, but pointed, questioning, Buffett argued that Moody's shouldn't bear all the blame for giving favorable ratings to subprime mortgage loans that later went horribly bad, sparking the financial crisis we've all been living through these past few years.

(Reuters) - Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRKa.N)(BRKb.N) confirmed on Friday that Warren Buffett will testify under subpoena before a U.S. panel examining the causes of the 2008 financial crisis.

April 13 (Bloomberg) -- Warren Buffett’s $5 billion investment in Goldman Sachs Group Inc. was partly a bet on the “integrity” of the Wall Street firm, Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Director Ronald Olson said.

“When Warren and Berkshire stepped up to make this investment, it was a very strong statement of its belief, his belief, in not just the strength of Goldman but its integrity,” Olson said in an interview this week with Bloomberg Television.
